ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT: AIMEE WARNER!posted October 31
Today we turn the spotlight on Aimee. She’s taken over lots of admin duties after Ravenna left for NY, and she’s been crushing WODs all over the place, even when her back was injured. So now is her time to shine:
Name: Aimee Warner
Profession: currently in school for web design/interactive media, and I do administrative work at everyone’s favorite crossfit box.
Q: How long have you been a member at CFH? It was a year on 10/27.
Q:How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness? The better question is how has CrossFit NOT changed my life, lifestyle, level of fitness. It’s changed it in too many ways to list. It’s inspired passion in me. I’ve made a lot of great friends and done things physically in this gym that I never would have thought possible a year ago. I quit my job and went back to school full-time, a decision that was inspired in part by my CrossFit obsession. I’ve learned that I have the potential to be a lot stronger than I gave myself credit for when I first walked through the doors at CFHW. Also, my favorite jeans no longer fit me because my butt has gotten so much bigger from the thousands of squats I’ve done over the last year. This is not necessarily a complaint. :-)
Q: What is your athletic background? Was very active in high school, followed by a decade of inactivity and poor food choices where I gained progressively more and more weight. Then I started hiking and doing various workout videos in my home before finding CrossFit a year ago.
Q:Favorite WOD: I really like chippers. Or anything with box jumps and double unders.
Q:Favorite Lift: Cleans? I’m not sure. Really, I just love lifting anything. I love trying for a new PR and the feeling you get when you succeed at a weight that seemed impossible just a short time ago.
Q:Least Favorite WOD: anything with handstand push-ups. I suck at those.
Q:Least Favorite Lift: Snatch. Definitely my weakest.
Q: What are your proudest achievements? In CrossFit, I think I was proudest the first time I ever did a pull-up without a band. That was a big moment for me and not something I ever expected to achieve in my lifetime. Prior to CrossFit, I’m proud of the fact that I was able to overcome some food/exercise issues and lose the 60 pounds that I put on after high school.
Q: Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit? I’ve got two currently. I want to do a muscle-up (soon…any minute now!), and I want to make it to Regionals in the Games (probably more distant future, not likely this year)
Q:Any advice for someone thinking about trying CrossFit or someone who has just started? Don’t sell yourself short. You’re stronger and capable of much more than you think you are right now. Give it a couple of weeks, and you’ll be hooked.
Q:Favorite place to eat in Los Angeles? At a friend’s place – he’s an excellent cook.
