OMEGA-3posted July 11
A lot of people ask about supplements. What should I take? Why should I take this? What does this do? Well, I can honestly say that if you could take only one supplement, it should be fish oil. Why? Because fish oil is an amazing source of Omega-3 fatty acids. What’s that, you ask. Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid that is vitally important to human health. Omega-3 is not manufactured by the body and must be obtained through food or supplements. The main Omega-3 fatty acids are Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA), and Docosahex-aenoic Acid (DHA). The latter two (EPA & DHA) have the greatest effect on the heart, skin, joints, and brain. Omega-3 fatty acids are highly concentrated in the brain and appear to be important for cognitive (brain memory and performance) and behavioral function. In fact, infants who do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids from their mothers during pregnancy are at risk for developing vision and nerve problems. Symptoms of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency include fatigue, poor memory, dry skin, heart problems, mood swings or depression, and poor circulation. Studies have proven that high concentrations of fish oil can be used to dramatically reduce inflammation, resulting in weight loss, improved blood chemistry and better overall health. More clinical research has shown that fatty acids can help lower the risk of heart disease, cancer, MS, bipolar depression, ADHD, chronic pain and Alzheimer’s – all because fish oils reduce inflammation. It is important to have a balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 (another essential fatty acid) in the diet. Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation, and most Omega-6 fatty acids tend to promote inflammation. The typical American diet tends to contain 14 – 25 times more Omega-6 fatty acids than Omega-3 fatty acids. It is for this reason that we need to supplement our diet with Omega-3s. At CFHW we sell an extremely high quality fish oil by Stronger, Faster, Healthier. It contains 3500mg of EPA and DHA fatty acids. This is one of the highest, if not the highest, concentrated fish oils on the market. High quality natural oils will contain an approximately equal mix of EPA and DHA. If the product contains significantly more of one fatty acid than another, it is an indication of chemical processing or concentration. So beware cheap capsules with uneven amounts of these fatty acids. If you have more questions about Omega-3, ask one of your awesome trainers, and pick up a bottle today. It’s $38 for a month’s supply, and totally worth it. You’ll notice a difference within a week.
